If you are reading this, then the chances are you knew about Gigantic (before the game was shutdown). Perhaps, you even played it, or… maybe not. Either way, you are here! And the game is miraculously back! Against all odds, and the odds were (pan intended) ginormous. But, is Gigantic still worth it?
I never got to play the original version, but I definitely bought and played the new Gigantic: Rampage Edition. And, I have a bit of anxiety every time the game struggles to connect to servers or load. My mind screams – Is it gone, again! Every.. single.. time.
Which brings me to my answer:
Personally, I think that Gigantic is ALMOST worth it now. And I say ‘almost’ because it lacks one thing. An offline mode, one that does not depend on severs being up and running.

I know most people will say – its a multiplayer game, and who still plays offline games in 2024. Plenty still do (ok, maybe not PLENTY). But, hear me out… if given the strong possibility that Gigantic is going to be (possibly) shutdown AGAIN in the future. Which is a risk that comes with any game… If that was to happen (again): would you rather go back to the way things were, after the first shutdown? Or, wouldn’t it be better to still have the option to play against bots. And perhaps, we could even get a way to setup a local game with friends, or something. Anything!
Anything would be better than the way things went down for us after the first shutdown. Don’t you think? Even offline bots would be better, I think.
Now… as I conclude today’s post, you’ll notice that I neglected to talk about the gameplay, lore, graphics, and all that juicy stuff. And, that’s because Gigantic is a truly magical game. It’s gorgeous beyond words, in both lore and gameplay-feel.
It’s only challenge is: will it be able to stick around, this time. The game already has bots in it. If only those bots can be made offline bots… If only. Sigh, one can only hope. Now, let me go back and enjoy this stunningly-crafted game, while we still have it. It’s a true work of art, that could (unfortunately) get shutdown again. And, I don’t see how it can come back again after a second shutdown. Which is why: this game needs an offline, for the bots that are already there in the game!
