In the year 2008, we saw the release of several games. Including Valve’s Left 4 Dead. The game was released in the same year with Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, and other noteworthy games. That was 15 years ago, and now we have a Left 4 Dead spiritual successor, titled Back 4 Blood.
Turtle Rock Studios’ Back 4 Blood, is now 3 years old. Which means it has been given more than enough time to iron out any kinks, bugs, and stuff. And yet, having been released 12 years after its award-winning predecessor, it still failed to measure up. The game now seems to be left for dead.
One Steam gamer went as far as to say, “It [Back 4 Blood] is so close to being good but also so far. Every idea this game tries to implement sounds good on paper but was poorly implemented.”
Left 4 Dead 2 | DEVELOPER: Valve | PUBLISHER: Valve
As a sidenote, I must say – It’s been a lot of fun revisiting Left 4 Dead 2. But, some of the missions are a lot more fun with friends. Missions like the one where you have to grab some Cola, and run through hordes of man-eaters. I will have to play Back 4 Blood for myself to see how it compares to that.
Some gamers seem unhappy with Back 4 Blood, the highly priced, 59.99-dollar, three-year-old, spiritual successor. Left 4 Dead 2, remains highly rated. The game (despite its age) hold an overwhelmingly positive’ rating on Steam. Even the latest comments hold it in high praise. One gamer’s review says, “the campaigns are a BLAST and are better with friends. The finales of each campaign are amazing too! And, other game modes Like Versus too! And the Original Soundtrack is the greatest thing ever.”
My conclusion on Left 4 Dead 2
I’ve also gone back to the game myself, and started the campaign all over again. Many games from Left 4 Dead 2’s era have now vanished. But, thanks to the inclusion of bots, and a good single player campaign, Left 4 dead 2 ain’t dead yet.
I had initially reinstalled them expecting to pickup from where I left off, but it seems as if I never saved any campaign progress. Maybe I lost my progress files somewhere down the line, or maybe I never played the campaign. Either way, I’m back at it. And the game, and its bots, are still as much fun as I last remember. But obviously, it is better with friends… but it might be a tough ask to find friends who still wanna play a 13 year old game. Nevertheless, I highly recommend that you should also go back for some blood… play Left 4 Dead one more time! It’s worth it!
