Things we hope to see in ‘Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days’

Into the Dead, is trending again! I remember playing Into the Dead 2 on my LG G4 years ago, while thinking – yoh, this is very intense. And, yes! It was so well-polished. The much-loved mobile game franchise, now has a new installment coming up. Titled – Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days. The playable demo can be expected to ship in October, 2024. And here is what we know, so far…

It’s going to be a 2.5D side scrolling adventure. one in which players are expected to scavenge, adapt, and (according to the press release) every decision counts. Your choices will decide who (in the gang of survivors) lives or dies. With stage being set in a zombie-infested, 1980’s, Walton Texas. Let’s hope PikPok delivers, like they have done in the past. This might become bigger than Back 4 Blood.

Into the Dead is a survival franchise that’s been around since 2012. This highly immersive game was first released on iOS in December, 2012. And, eventually came to the next year. By March 2016, the first game had also taken over Windows Mobile, and Windows PC. And now, we have a new PC installment coming up, the first in many years.

Things we hope to see in ‘Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days’

As a fan of post apocalyptic games, I have a few things I would love to see in Our Darkest Days. Obviously, I would expect the game to be playable offline. PikPok has always done so with the previous mobile versions, so I don’t anticipate that changing now.

Having heard that this game has a team of survivors whom you are tasked with protecting, and making decisions for. Some may even die because of the choices you’ve made. And, if that’s the case, I hope they borrow a page from State of Decay. A zombie game where any of your beloved survivors could die. Even your “main” guy could get ripped apart, and never come back to base, again. But, in order for such deaths to have meaning, Into the Dead has to make all the survivors simultaneously playable. If they are just freeloading on resources while players control 1 character only, then their deaths won’t hurt as much.

Another final touch that I hope to see would be – squad orders/commands.

State of Decay did that really well (sorry for mentioning this game again, but I think its awesome). You could assign a character to go out on their own and fetch resources, or whatever. And, they would autonomously do it, while you stay behind and control other characters. But, they could also die out there, if you don’t clear the streets first. Or, send aid to assist them with the zombies.

Having some of those features would (in my opinion) make this upcoming game amazing! But, I’m sure PikPok has already got something cooked up for us. Let’s wait and see.
