Will Mario Kart ever come to PC?

Published on

Nintendo has a very minimum presence on PC. The company has an official Steam Curator page, where they curate a list of recommended games like Rayman Legends, Sonic Adventure 2, and others. Like most of you… I hope to wake up one day and see a Mario Kart: PC version.

Will Nintendo ever release some PC games? Will Mario Kart ever come to PC? Hopefully with the option to play against bots, offline! If history is anything to go by, the answer would be – no.

Nintendo seems to be more interested in getting people to own one of their consoles, or arcade machines. So, anyone who wants to play Mario games, will need Nintendo’s very own hardware. And with the Switch 2 scheduled to come out anytime soon, they are not stopping. We should expect to keep seeing more and more consoles from Nintendo.

Mario Kart PC version

But, its possible that one day Nintendo might surprise us all. When you look at the evolution of Mario Kart Tour, you can clearly see that they’ve already shown signs of embracing change. Originally, the mobile game (Mario Kart Tour) was only playable in portrait-mode. Just like many other Nintendo-mobile-games before it (e.g Mario Run). Which made no sense, especially in the case of a 2D platformer like Mario Run.

Eventually Nintendo came to their senses with Mario Kart Tour, and added a landscape-mode. Along with a battle-mode. They also changed several key things, like – the removal of money-grabbing gotcha mechanics, and the addition of actual multiplayer mechanics. Though I think they should have done one better, and added an offline-mode.

If Nintendo ever decides to give us one, and only one, Mario PC game. I hope it will be Mario Kart, with bot-players, an offline-mode, and local coop. And a multiplayer-mode for those that are crazy about multiplayer. That would ok, I guess. As long as the offline-mode and local coop mode, don’t end up needing you to log-onto the multiplayer-servers first, or something like that. I keep hoping this dream comes true, one day. A PC version of Mario Kart, that’s playable offline and in local coop.
