Physics-based games like Lifeslide

Published on

In the modern gaming industry, its very hard to find variety. Most of the big studios tend to get obsessed with the same game mechanics, and then beat that genre to death. Until it has no more golden eggs left to lay. If its MOBAs, they’ll publish MOBAs all the way. Over, and over, and over, again! And, when they decide to focus on First Person Shooters, you won’t get any other game from them. Which is why I’ve decided to compile a list of games that fall under a different genre. So, bring out your science hats, ladies and gentlemen… I’m going to share with you some physics-based games like Lifeslide.

Normally, I tend to align my focus towards games with bots. But, every now and again, I also like to bring to light other games too. Games with good single player content, offline games, etc. And today, I’ll be focused on single player, physics-based games like Lifeslide.

Games like Lifeslide

While getting this list together, I was strongly tempted to include a fun (in a frustrating way) physics game called Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. It’s an indie game that will make you pull your hair out (or in my case – dreadlocks). Even just watching the trailer, almost made me pop a vein. After watching the player stuck, and annoyingly struggling to jump over an obstacle. The players physics was all wrong, repeatedly. It’s a funnily frustrating game (if such a thing exists). But, it doesn’t fit the bill today.

Are they any other games like Lifeslide?

Yes.

1. Crumble – DEVELOPER: BRUTE FORCE | PUBLISHER: BRUTE FORCE | According to the developers, Crumble is a dynamic physics platformer. Move like a Slime, jump like a ball, swing like Spiderman!

2. Egging On – DEVELOPER: Egobounds | PUBLISHER: Egobounds | On Steam, the store page describes this game as follows: Face the challenge of being a real, fragile egg. Climb out of the hen house and survive in a shop, a kitchen, and other dangerous areas. Roll, jump, and use the environment to reach new heights.

3. I Am Fish – DEVELOPER: Bossa Studios | PUBLISHER: Curve Games | I Am Fish is a charming, physics-based adventure starring four intrepid fish friends, forcibly separated from their home in a pet shop fish tank. Swim, fly, roll and chomp your way to the open ocean in a bid for freedom and to re-unite once again.

Conclusion

Given the rapidly corroding state of the gaming industry, its fun to see indie studios fighting to give us fresh genres, and new material. While the big studios continue to endless recycle old, dated, formulas. If you know other physics games which should be on this list, kindly let me know in the comments section below. Cheers, and happy gaming!
